Benedict Cumberbatch & Claire Foy to star in Louis Wain

Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy are set to star together in new historical biopic Louis Wain according to Deadline.

The movie which begins shooting in August is based around the life of Louis Wain an English artist best known for his drawings, which consistently featured anthropomorphised large-eyed cats and kittens.

You can see some of his artwork here.

Foy will play his young wife who sadly developed breast cancer and died after a short marriage to Wain. The kitten that comforted her during that time was the inspiration for Wain’s life work.

Also starring will be the always extraordinary Andrew Riseborough and Toby Jones. It will be directed by Will Sharpe and written by him and Simon Stephenson.

Benedict said: I am thrilled by the prospect of playing the courageous, playful spirit that is Louis Wain and to be producing such a special film. I have admired Will’s work for several years through Flowers and from the moment we first met, knew he was the perfect person to bring Louis’ inspirational and odyssean story to life. Together we plan to bring audiences a sincerely uplifting, playful, thought provoking tale of resilience, creativity and the enduring power of love

Benedict Cumberbatch – Birthday Fundraiser

It’s Benedict Cumberbatch’s birthday on 19 July and every year his amazing fans raise money for a charity in his name. This year in addition to the £800 raised by fans for Medecins San Frontieres UK we will be raising funds, at Benedict’s request, for The Whittington Hospital to enable them to redevelop their children’s play area.

In a single year, over 2,000 children are cared for in the Whittington Hospital Ifor Children’s Ward, all of whom are admitted in emergency situations. This includes children receiving treatment for illnesses such as cancer and strokes. One of the most popular areas of the ward is the Childrens Play Terrace, a secure outdoors space where children can enjoy time with their families, friends and professional play specialists. After many years of use and appreciation, the Childrens Play Terrace has become dated. In addition to installing new play equipment and fittings, the refurbishment plans intend to double the size of the Play Terrace, incorporating a space which is currently unused. The New Play Terrace will be built to complement a child’s treatment and recovery, whilst also offering a safe space to unwind.

The campaign to re-develop the Play Terrace has been doing incredibly well and only has £27,000 left to raise so every penny counts!
