Star Trek Into Darkness: Benedict Cumberbatch’s character’s name is revealed

Paramount Pictures have released the name of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in Star Trek Into Darkness. Cumberbatch will play a character by the name of John Harrison. It had previously been speculated that Cumberbatch would play the infamous Khan or possibly Gary Mitchell. The release of the character’s name seems to put pay to such speculation…or does it? With JJ Abrams well known penchant for secrecy the name could well be a red herring.

The stunning teaser poster for Star Trek Into Darkness as well as the first official still from the movie have been added to the gallery.

A teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness was released last week. Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch in suitably silky menacing tones it provided an exciting peek at the film which is being released next May. The first 9 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness will play with certain IMAX screenings of The Hobbit from 14 December 2012. To find out whether your IMAX screening is carrying the prologue go here. Non IMAX screenings of The Hobbit will carry a second longer trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness which should premiere on-line this week.

An official site has been set up for the film which includes such news as a list of international release dates.

Benedict has started to do press for the film visiting both Tokyo (where 500 Sherlock fans greeted him at Narita airport!) and LA. He has given interviews to both Access Hollywood and MTV about the film and his role as John Harrison.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released on 17 May 2013.
