Sadly we have come to the end of another superb series of Sherlock with The Reichenbach Fall, the Sherlock series 2 finale having aired last Sunday in the UK. 

The episode received an extraordinary 91 appreciation index rating and ratings of nearly 8 million which is likely to increase once time shift figures are taken into account.

Shortly after the series ended co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss announced on twitter that there would be a third series and that it had been commissioned at the same time as series 2. They kept that quiet! Expect to see Sherlock back some time in 2013.

In other Sherlock news once time shift figures were added in The Hounds of Baskerville had final ratings of 10.27 million - an incredible achievement.  Finally Benedict Cumberbatch has been named the greatest ever on screen Sherlock Holmes by the readers of Digital Spy!
