Deadline reports that Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, The Martian) has joined Doctor Strange as possible chief villain Baron Mordo. Chiwetel joins Benedict Cumberbatch (who stars as Doctor Stephen Strange) in the film which is set to begin principal photography later this year. Chiwetel and Benedict previously worked together on 12 Years a Slave for which Chiwetel was Oscar nominated. Tilda Swinton is also reportedly set to appear as The Ancient One. The film is due to be released in the US on 4 November 2016.
To tie in with Hamlet (which stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role) the Barbican will be screening a season of films starring Benedict Cumberbatch. These include recent Hollywood hits Star Trek Into Darkness and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as well as rare screenings of Hawking and Stuart:A Life Backwards which also stars Tom Hardy. The Barbican will also be screening the entire of Parade’s End (in which Benedict starred as Christopher Tietjens opposite Rebecca Hall as Sylvia in Sir Tom Stoppard’s adaptation of Ford Madox Ford’s novels) and will be screening the cliffhangers to all 3 Sherlock series (The Great Game, The Reichenbach Fall and His Last Vow) in a single sitting. Tickets are on sale from 12 June at 10:00 a.m.
